The City of Weyburn's new Director of Engineering is Renee Cugnet.

"We are thrilled to have Renée step up to lead our Engineering team. Her experience as the City of Weyburn’s Municipal Engineer has proven that she is exceptionally qualified for the Director position. We are confident that under Renée’s guidance, the Engineering Department will continue to excel, and we look forward to the continued success that her leadership will bring," said City Manager Mathew Warren.

Cugnet, who worked for three years as a Municipal Engineer under the former Director, Jennifer Wilkinson, said Wilkinson was an exceptional leader and role model for her.

"She had a very positive influence to the development of my municipal career. She invested in her team members' growth to build a strong and committed team within our engineering department, and that resulted with a lot of great work and improvements within our organization," Cugnet shared. "So with our vision for the engineering department being aligned, I felt really motivated and committed to continue working towards those organizational goals that we've been building on for the last few years."

She said she looks forward to taking on new challenges and continuing to grow in her career.

"I've always had the desire to have more of an impact than of just what my individual skills could offer, so I'm really looking forward to taking on some new challenges in this new role, and with that, the opportunity to build different management skills that will positively impact my team as well. So I'm just excited to watch my team continue to grow and develop."

"Jennifer has built such a strong, really good team. We work really well together here. So she kind of set me up for success. It's going to be good."

The Engineering Department overees the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater and Public Works. Cugnet's new role will have her present for meetings of Weyburn City Council, which she has had some experience with in her previous role, including providing reports and even presenting to Council.

"I enjoyed the process of providing the required information for Council to make that informed decision. So I'm excited to have a new seat at the table."
