The Estevan Bruins are hosting a camp for youth players hoping to hone their skills before the hockey season begins.
Those camps feature age groups between U7 and U15, with the U9 to U13 groups practicing this week.
Marty Martinson, the play-by-play voice and marketing operations director for the Bruins, says the camp has been going great since their first week.
"It was a great turnout both weeks here, but last week was maybe a few more kids, a lot of the fundamentals of the game, you know, going through right from skating on out, a lot of big group stuff."
"This week is more so individualized focus, so it's a lot more focused on what the kids want to work on here, stick handling drills, maybe something a little more advanced there for those just looking to take their game to kind of that next level."
Despite the age ranges Martinson says all kids are getting some good skating out of the camps.
"The young kids coming in here. We're just kind of, you know, getting their groove in the sport to these kids here. I've been playing a couple of years and, you know, it's just great to see so many coming out here wanting to be part of it and the guys have been great too."
"You know, a lot of players have come back here these past two weeks and come in early ahead of the season, ahead of training camp and that sort of thing just to be part of it, be out in the community and all that. That's just been great to see."
Martinson says he's happy to be able to give back to the Estevan community.
"It's always great to kind of give back a little bit to the community, you know, for the team. Anything they can do. There's just another way to kind of do that, share their passion for hockey with that next generation of possibly Bruins down the line here in a few years."
