The Weyburn Police Service lent a hand to the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency last Wednesday.

It all started when someone crossing into Canada at the North Portal crossing didn't stop. They went through the crossing, and an alert was issued to surrounding police agencies to watch for the vehicle.

"They were stopped in Weyburn without any incident, arrested, and then taken back to the border," explained Sergeant Shane St. John with the WPS. "I'm not sure what happened after that."

St. John noted incidents like this happen from time to time, particularly at border crossings that are closed. Even then, thanks to surveillance in place at the crossings, information about the vehicle can be released.

"Sometimes it's just a misunderstanding," added Sgt. St. John. "Usually if it's someone that's going through they're not going to stop for the police."

The call was one of 100 calls for service the WPS responded to last week.
