CUPE Saskatchewan is holding BBQs across the province and their group found itself in Estevan to serve some hotdogs and hamburgers to locals.
They've been all around Saskatchewan ever since May in different communities from the southeast and more.
President Kent Peterson explains why they want to get out and about with southeast communities.
"We like to do these things to show appreciation to our members who provide various public services across the province, but also to give back to local communities. We call ourselves Saskatchewan's community union because our members serve communities across the province. So, we like to have these free barbecues just to give back and say thanks for all the things that folks do in their communities throughout the province."
The BBQ in Estevan attracted a lot of people with Peterson happy to talk with the community.
"The reception today here in Estevan is excellent. There are folks from all different ages and backgrounds here, some are City of Estevan workers and others are just folks enjoying the water park and that kind of thing, and everyone in between so it's been great. I've been trying to have conversations between barbecuing and just to chat with folks the other summer has been going, so it's been great and it's been a similar story across the province."
For Estevan's BBQ CUPE Saskatchewan partnered with city workers to highlight some of the work they do around town.
"Here in Estevan, we've partnered with the municipal workers. So they obviously provide all of these municipal services that folks need to live in a vibrant city. So that's what they do. We've partnered with our members across the province and various communities that work in healthcare and education and in our universities. So we like to take a moment when we can to chat with people who come to the BBQ about the importance of those public services."
Peterson says they'll have more barbecues in the future, including Carlyle, which you can find on their website.
