Residents, families, and community members from the Town of Herbert will soon have access to improved emergency health services with an accessible and efficient care strategy.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority announced yesterday that Herbert will be implementing a virtual physician program.
Everett Hindley, Saskatchewan's Minister of Health, noted that Herbert will be the ninth community to receive the benefits of a virtual physician program.
"What it does is it supports the local physician by allowing for some ER coverage when that particular doctor is not available," he shared. "They use existing technology such as HealthLine 8 1 1 and a healthcare team that has remote access to that particular facility."
Along with supporting physicians, the program will also grant community members much-needed access to assistance at any time.
A new virtual physician program has already been in effect in a number of other rural communities including Gravelbourg, Outlook, and Oxbow.
"It should be starting fairly soon in the Town of Herbert," added Hindley.
