Now in its eighth year, the Shoot on the Bow has earned a reputation as a must- do, fun darts tournament.

Play starts tomorrow night (Aug. 23) with a blind draw at the Cochrane Lions Events Centre starting around 7:30 p.m. It continues with women's singles and men's doubles Saturday morning, mixed doubles in the afternoon, then concludes on Sunday with men's singles and women's doubles.

Tournament chair Ellison Smith says the annual tournament has become a destination for players from across Alberta. Last year, 84 archers participated from Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Edmonton, as well as Cochrane and Calgary. More wanted to come but found the cost of hotel rooms too high.

In the past, they've also attracted players from out of province.

"The feedback we get all the time is this is a fun shoot, and they always want to come and play," he says.

Being a ranked tournament for the men's and women's singles event is an additional draw. It's a chance for people in the hunt for more points to qualify for provincials.

There's a guaranteed $500 top prize for both men's and women's singles, and a minimum of a 90 per cent payout in all other events.

Registration remains open for all events until 15 minutes before play starts and you can register right onsite. The full schedule is at the bottom of this article.
