The Winnipeg Police Service says that several Jewish organizations have received threats similar to those made across the country in recent days.
Several organizations in cities including Ottawa, Montreal, and Calgary had received threatening messages on the morning of Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The RCMP provided a national precautionary statement regarding threatening emails sent from an unknown source to many institutions, including Synagogues across Canada.
In a media release sent out on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service says it has also received several reports from Jewish organizations that had received similar emails or expressed concern for the situation.
Police attended these locations and deemed no public risk.
The WPS says that the threats were consistent with widespread national threats.
The release says that through coordinated efforts by the Hate Crimes Coordinator and the RCMP, this investigation is continuing.
