Highway construction season is continuing with a few roads around the province being worked on.

That includes Highway 18, which recently saw its surface change with gravel being spread in anticipation of further work.

Estevan MLA and Minister of Highways Lori Carr talks about the plan for the highway.

"The plan on Highway 18 was to get all of the crushing done this fall and then be able to actually start that project next spring and things are looking really good for everything to be right on track. So hopefully next summer we'll all be driving on a new highway on 18 West of Estevan and that will actually complete the corridor right from Highway 6 all the way to the Manitoba border, so it would be really nice."

While that gravel is on the road the province will be taking care of that over the fall and winter months.

"We'll continue to maintain the patching until we actually get that resurfacing done next spring. I've had the opportunity to talk to several people who live along that corridor, whether they're working or just traveling for personal business and they're really excited that this is happening next spring."

Other highway projects are progressing well across the province, with Carr saying there haven't been many delays.

"We're moving along really quickly. We had a really wet spring, so it kind of possibly could have delayed projects, but then we got some really nice warm weather and by all accounts, projects are pretty much moving on time and it'll be nice too."

She reminds people to stay safe and slow down when driving past construction zones.

"A couple of months left of construction season unfortunately for those driving the highways, just remind people to slow down and those safety don't. Sometimes you don't feel like you need to slow down, but there could be a drop off the pavement edge that you're not aware of and we just really want to keep everybody safe until those projects are completed later this fall."
