Bulldogs getting ready for a new season

The Blackfalds Bulldogs are less than three weeks away from kicking off the 2024-2025 season. This will be their first full season in the BCHL after moving to that league in the middle of last year.

The team will start the season with five exhibition games. The first game will be at home on Tuesday, September 10 against Okotoks. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Eagle Builders Centre in Blackfalds. 

The pre-season wraps up on September 17th with the regular season starting on September 20th with a home game against Sherwood Park.

The Bulldogs were busy in the off season with many player trades and signings. Some of these players include:

  • Forward Matheson Mason was sent to the Spruce Grove Saints in exchange for future considerations.
  • Defenseman Matthew Ronn was signed on August 2nd. Ronn comes from Yorkton, Saskatchewan and played with the Whitecourt Wolverines.
  • On July 30th, Blackfalds signed forward Joey Melo. Melo also played with the Whitecourt Wolverines and was born in Georgetown, Ontario.
  • Whitby, Ontario native Jamie Darlison was signed on July 26th. Whitby who was born in 2005, played for both the Pickering Panthers and the Trenton Golden Hawks in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
  • Another forward Charles Béland was signed on July 23rd. Béland, who comes from Trois-Rivières, Quebec, played for the North Iowa Bulls and the Lincoln Stars last season.
  • One more signing of note, J.J. Johnson was hired as the Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager for the team.
