The Weyburn Police Service is reminding drivers and pedestrians to obey barricades and signage around the construction on First Avenue, where crews have been busy repaving between Government Road and Tenth Street.

The reminder comes as damage to newly poured concrete can delay projects and cost significant amounts of money should someone fail to see, or deliberately disturb, the fresh concrete.

According to Sergeant Shane St. John, traffic tickets are an attest to how many drivers are simply not paying attention.

"We get a lot of undue care attention. People on their cell phones," he noted. "People need to pay attention to their surroundings. I don't think a lot of this is intentional, but it shows how many drivers are not paying attention and it shows how careful other drivers need to be."

"People just don't get it. They don't get the cell phone thing, and they continue to use it and they are not paying attention. That'll sometimes has a lot to do with it."
