Southeast College is hosting their annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament tomorrow. A change in venue this year as it’s being hosted at the White Bear Lake Golf Course at the Carlyle Lake Resort just north of Carlyle on Highway 9. An event that vice president of communication and strategic enrollment with Southeast College’s Sheena Onrait says has been around for a while.

“I don't even want to guess how many years ago we started Swing for Scholarships. I've been at the college here for 18 years and it has been a staple in our operations for as long as I can remember.  We've varied locations and we've varied whether we have two tournaments or one in a year. In fact, we actually had three tournaments one year, so that was a lot of work. But we love it, it's a staple.”

Being hosted on Friday, September 13th means this year, the theme is Friday the 13th. With an event of this size being hosted every year it brings a lot of money in for Southeast College. The event typically raises $10,000 to $15,000 every year and is matched thanks to the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship so an average of $30,000 of total fundraising and none of it would be possible without some help.

“We have a really great internal team that is coordinating the golf tournament. So, they do a heck of a lot of work up front and then even more work that day to make sure that the day is amazing and enjoyable. You can't do a fundraiser without sponsors and thankfully we have the most amazing sponsors that come forward and really believe in the value of education and believe in the work that Southeast College does in Southeast Saskatchewan.”

They’re always looking for new sponsors for this event and with a steak dinner to follow means it’s an event ready to swing for the fences. For more information and how to buy tickets, call or text 306-891-6662 or 306-848-2530 or visit the Southeast College website.
