The countdown is on.

Racing fans throughout the southeast are holding their breath today, as the finale of the Estevan Motor Speedway's season gets underway tonight.

"We've still got some tight races and several of the classes. A couple of them are pretty much locked up, but several of them are still very much up for grabs, so anything can happen. We've got some Canadians leading some of the classes and some Americans leading some of the classes. Last year, we only had one Canadian win the track championship in one of the classes. So, it's a nice healthy balance right now and should be exciting to see who comes out on top," shared Speedway Vice President Aaron Turnbull.

While much of the southeast saw torrential rain on Wednesday that left some damages, Turnbull admits the moisture helped out the track this time around. "If anything, it just saved us a little bit of work. We normally would be watering the track all week anyway just to get a little bit of a base of moisture in it. It probably just saved us some diesel fuel. As far as the conditions of the track, we should be sitting really good. We have an amazing track prep crew and our track is normally good and hard anyway, so we don't expect any rough conditions."

Championship Night promises the conclusion of five racing classes that's raced on Estevan's track:

  • Slingshots
  • IMCA Modified
  • IMCA Northern Sport Mod
  • IMCA Hobby Stock
  • IMCA Stock Car

Turnbull shared that community support has been alive and well all season long, despite some hiccups at the start of the season. He said that the organization appreciates the sponsors and volunteers that have helped throughout the season. While rain and weather events could've hurt attendance in the stands, he added, the crowds have been strong all year.

Gates open to the public at 5:00 p.m. with the first green flag waved at 7:00 p.m.
