The Weyburn Humane Society has wrapped up their latest fundraising initiative, the "Ride for Paws Support the Cause" vehicle raffle, by giving away a brand-new 2024 GMC Terrain to one lucky winner.

Clarissa Welsh, a board member of the Weyburn Humane Society, says the raffle was a success, with 755 tickets sold, which will result in a profit of just under $20,000 for the shelter after covering fees and the cost of the vehicle. Welsh says that the funds go to a plethora of places.

"It's really gonna go towards the cost of having staff, the cost of vet costs, and food costs for these animals. It's really gonna help our day-to-day operations."

This year's winner was Manuel Mejia. He says that he is really thankful to have won this car.

Mejia says that he supported the Humane Society because of their many important missions.

"It is really important. Last year, I also grabbed a ticket for the car."

He mentions the first place he is going is to surprise his family next weekend with his brand-new car.

Mejia says he was very surprised to receive the phone call.

"I can't explain what I feel right now; I don't believe it.  I just can't believe that I won something like this."

The Humane Society hopes to hold this fundraiser again next year as long as the community supports them.
