The 8th Annual Dustin Pratt Memorial Tournament came to Estevan, memorializing a golfer who made people's lives brighter.
The tournament had golfers going around TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club's 18 holes, dressed in redneck attire.
Roxane Pratt, Dustin's mother, and organizer of the event says the tournament is put on because it was one of Dustin's favourite sports.
"We lost Dustin in August of 2016 and after we lost him, we decided we wanted to carry on his legacy. Dustin loved to golf, so we thought we would throw on a tournament."
“Dustin was a fun-loving person. He loved to have fun, he loved to make people happy, and Dustin loved his sports. That’s why we decided to do a sports-themed event in his memory,”
Besides an entry fee, there's also a raffle with prizes donated by the community and an option to donate.
Pratt says the money that's raised goes towards a variety of causes every year.
"With the money that we raise, we support local children's groups, we've donated to the Estevan Hospital, and the Jim Pattison Hospital in Saskatoon. We donate to different sports groups in Estevan. We've helped private donations to families that have had children in the hospital. Families that have lost their house due to fire. Anybody else that comes to us for support, we try to help."
While this year they're down a bit compared to previous years Pratt says it's still good to see people come out, including those who have supported the tournament going on eight years.
"Our numbers are down a little bit from last year. Last year we had 24 teams," said Pratt. "This year we're down to 23, which is still a good turn. So that's 92 golfers."
"We have some groups that have been with us right from the very first tournament and every year we tend to add new groups, which is nice to see."
Last year the tournament raised around $10,000.
