The storms brought heavy rains to the area over the weekend while Estevan was mostly spared.

Multiple thunderstorm watches were issued over the weekend as a severe system made its way through the southeast.

That resulted in harsh winds, heavy rains, and even hail in a few areas.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang talks about the system and what the worst of the weather brought to the area.

"It was a pretty stormy weekend. I think the strongest storms came through Saturday night, sort of into the overnight period. The area had quite a lot of strong winds, reported some small hail as well, and some good rains."

While Estevan avoided most of that bad weather some areas got hit hard with plenty of rain coming down.

"With respect to rainfall, we don't have a lot of stations to actually draw from. Nothing was recorded there in Estevan. Weyburn, it looks like 30mm, followed by another 17mm. So over a couple of days, almost 50mm worth of rain. Pretty strong wind gusts as well."

"I think some of the stronger winds were a little bit further north. We know we got reports of strong winds, hail, and damage at White Bear Resort as well. I think that came from Facebook. So yeah, lots of reports here and there."

Earlier in the week funnel clouds were spotted as part of a system that had the capability of producing tornadoes.

Lang explains why the previous storms were so much more active.

"Technically, we would call them a quasi-linear convective system or a bow echo is another way, but what it is is it's our squall line is probably the best term to use, the line of storms that have really strong winds associated with them so they can do quite a bit of damage."

"Because our observing network is pretty far apart, it's hard to get a real read on how strong a lot of the winds were and it strengthened as it went into Manitoba and did quite a bit of damage there."
