About five dozen local kids will be going back to school in style thanks to an Okotoks salon.

A few months ago, Rose Gold Hair Co. reached out to the Okotoks Food Bank, offering free haircuts to young food bank clients for the back-to-school season.

The food bank worked with their clients to get kids signed up for the big day, which took palce on Wednesday, August 21.

The salon's owner, Brooke Arsenian, says Rose Gold's hairdressers donated a full day to the cause.

"We had all of our team donate their time, a full day, we worked from about 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and did about 60 kids' haircuts all free of charge, just to give back."

They made sure to give the kids the works.

"We gave them a full wash, they got cut, styled, blowdried. It really felt amazing, just to see the looks on their faces and when they were finished. Even to come into a salon and have that full experience, it just felt really really good," says Arsenian.

They were also treated to free cookies, courtesy of 94 Take the Cake.

Arsenian also presented a $550 cheque to the food bank's executive director, Bente Yanota, from a raffle held earlier this year.

She says it's a great way to give students a boost heading into the school year.

"It's nice to give them a bit of a treat, it's definitely something we're going to continue doing in the future."
