Both men's rugby teams have advanced to the semifinals of the Calgary Rugby Union.
Leading 12-0 at the half, the Div. 2 Grizzlies went on to shut out Lethbridge, 29-0.
"We were controlling most aspects of the game," says head coach Tyler Hawes. "It was a fight at scrum time, but on line-out we were doing really well. We had two tries held up, but we had lots of opportunities, and we were inside their half a lot of their game."
Lethbridge finished seventh in the regular season with a 4-7 record, well behind the 8-3 Grizz. Hawes says Lethbridge was significantly better than when the Grizz beat them 52-12 in the first game of the season.
"Just everyone showed up, ready to go from the get-go," says Dave Evans, one of the Grizz captains. "The team we played today was night and day different than the team we played in game one of the season, but the boys just took everything in stride, everything they threw at us, they just took it in stride. There's a lot of sore bodies but there's a lot of smiling faces; that's all that matters."
The Grizz are the defending provincial championships after winning the southern Alberta title against the Red Deer Titans, 15-5. St. Albert forfeited the championship game.
