Albert Henry Torwalt was born at Jansen, SK on August 21, 1926, to August and Emilie (Anders) Torwalt the 3rd of 10 children.

Albert met the love of his life at a local party and on June 7, 1955, he married Leatrice Meyers from Romance. They lived in Saskatoon for a few years where Albert briefly drove truck, was a cab driver and a city police officer. Their 5 children were all born in Saskatoon. Farming was his life blood though and although he would go home to help with seeding and harvest, they moved back to stay in 1962 to a farm Albert bought 5 miles north of Leroy. Albert farmed there until 1999 when they moved to Humboldt. He was widowed in 2002 and continued to live in his own home in Humboldt until April of 2024 when he moved to Bethany Pioneer Village in Middle Lake.

As a young man Albert loved to play softball (he was a pitcher known as Terrible Torwalt) and he loved airplanes. He always wanted to be a pilot and did take some flying lessons. Curling and golf were both passions of his after he was married- he won many, many trophies in both, and later bowling was a favorite hobby (was almost always men’s High Score). He golfed his last round when he was 93 years old and Par’d 3 on the first 5 holes! Albert also loved fishing, and they would go to fly in fishing camps in northern Sask.  They loved to travel. They went to Hawaii, on a short Bahamas cruise, many trips to the coast and many trips to Reno and Arizona. Albert’s kids even got him to Mexico one time.  He loved old time music and never missed listening to his Old Time Dance Party every Sat night on the radio. Albert loved to play crib and was still playing right up to the time he left his home.

Albert will be deeply missed by so many friends, family and neighbors and his crib playing buddies. He is survived by his five children: Pat Foster, granddaughter Shannon (Ray) Harwood and great grandsons Wayde, Zachary and Adam; Garth (Pam) Torwalt, grandson Sean (Irina), great grandchildren Camila and Michael, granddaughter Amy Torwalt and great grandson Carter, Cal Torwalt, granddaughters Marla Torwalt and Kyla (Kurtis) Wald, great grandchildren Olivia, Victoria and Silas; Colleen Torwalt and grandchildren Melaina and Jayden; Trudy (Eldon) Taphorn, granddaughters Natasha (Carlos) Solis-Taphorn, Marsha (Rick) Jenkins and great grandchildren Jordyn and Emerson, Tori and Brooke and grandson Blair (Heidi) Taphorn and great grandchildren Robyn, Alexandra, Jeremy and Jade.

Albert is also survived by sisters Jean Hoffman, Janet Lissel and Florence Mierke, brother Ervin Torwalt, brother-in-law Willie Friesen, sister-in-law Barb Torwalt and many nieces and nephews.

Albert was predeceased by his wife Lea (2002), grandson Trevor Mohagen (2010), parents August (1968) and Emilie (1996) and brothers Louie and Bill, sisters Minnie, Lorna and Irene, brothers in law Ben Hoffman and Don Lissel and sister-in-law Beatrice Torwalt.

There will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 2-5 PM at the St Gregor Community Hall.

Memorial donations in Albert’s memory may be directed to Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake.
