Water Valley Days has seen a resurgence in popularity, and the aim is to make it bigger and better every year.
Held on Aug. 24, it kicked off with pancakes and parade at noon and continued with a full day of contests and activities until fireworks at dusk.
"We hope that people can see our events and come join us so we can make them bigger and bigger every year," says Chair Arya Ahmadi. "That's the goal."
The log sawing contest, sponsored by realtor Dawn Lashmar, drew plenty of teams, many trying the sport for the first time. That included Michola Rear and her sawing partner Kole St. Germain.
"He (Kole) found it interesting so here we are...winning!"
Ryan Minkus was among those who watched it last year and added it to his bucket list. He recruited Arley Hull to man the other end of the saw.
"We're out at the RV park just down the road, so we'll be back," says Hull.
Also organized for adults was a pickleball tournament, tea boiling & tasting contest and a crib tournament. Kids could participate in 13 different games and activities.
The branding crew from Stockmen's drew a steady crowd of people all afternoon.
There was plenty of music and food all day long until the fireworks launched at dusk.
This grassroots celebration is worth checking out when it rolls around on the calendar again next summer.
