The 8th and 9th rounds of the Saskatchewan Motocross Association’s season took place in Lloydminster this past weekend, and three riders from Weyburn made the trek for the AB/SK Shootout. They would end up putting together some strong runs during the event, with one rider coming back with a number of podium finishes.  

Max Morrice would ride in the 50cc 4-6 on both days. On Saturday, he finished 4th and then followed it up with a 5th place finish on Sunday. Morrice also rode in the 50cc Open, finishing 14th on Saturday and 18th on Sunday.  

There were two races on both days for Kent Shumlich as well. He rode in the MX2 Intermediate, where he finished 6th on Satirday and 5th on Sunday. Then, in the MX3 Intermediate, Shumlich finished 9th Saturday and got onto the podium Sunday with a 3rd place finish.  

Trey Griffin would ride in the Pro Am Open Saturday and Sunday and finished second on both days. He followed the strong performance up with the Open Pro race both days. Saturday, Griffin came in 2nd, and then on Sunday, he would finish 1st.  

With just one race day left in the season, Weyburn riders are in a good position in the overall standings. Morrice is in second place in the 50cc 4-6 class of the Provincial Championship Series, and Bentley Henderson is 33rd, although he did only ride in one race this year. Morrice is also 9th in the 50cc Open 

Rhett Betham is 11th in the 50cc 7-8, and 12th in the 50cc Open.  

Kent Shumlich is entering the final race of the year in 1st in the MX2 Intermediate, and 1st in the MX3 Intermediate. Trey Griffin is in 1st in teh Pro Am Open, and 1st in the Open Pro. 

A few riders from Yellow Grass have also been putting together impressive seasons this year. Roman Quigley is currently second in the standings for the 85cc 7-11, and 10th in the Supermini.  

Meanwhile, Marcus Quigley is entering the final race day of the season in 4ths in the MX2 Intermediate, and 5th in the MX3 Intermediate. Quigley is also 13th in the Pro Am Open, with just three races this year. 

The final race day for the Saskatchewan Motocross Association is scheduled for September 7th in Swift Current. The Year End Awards Banquet will be held afterward.
