When the temperatures are hot, nothing feels better than a dip in the pool. This past weekend was the last chance for many to go for a swim at the outdoor pool at the Weyburn Leisure Centre. Of course, the pool would only be available during its hours of operation, but for one group, they didn’t necessarily think the rules applied to them.

Saturday night, the Weyburn Police Service would find a group who had hopped a fence at the facility.

“They did get a few people in there,” said Sergeant Shane St. John with the Weyburn Police Service. “They were given tickets for trespass, and they will appear in court on those. It’ll be a monetary fine.”

The facility itself wasn’t damaged, which means those who took part won’t be facing any criminal charges.

“Just some people going for a joy swim,” St. John added.

People trying to go for a swim at the outdoor pool when it is closed for the night isn’t something that happens very often, St. John continued.

“It used to be a fairly regular thing where we ended up having a key to the pool, which we still have,” he told Discover Weyburn. “It has died off in the last few years, but it was some people decided at the end of the year to go for a swim, and they were caught in the pool because we do do checks on the pool regularly.”

One of those who took part in the midnight swim also received a ticket for unlawfully having open alcohol in his possession under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act.
