Thursday, Aug. 29 is a major moment in history for the people of the Stoney Nakoda Nations.

While many of us have come to call Morley by its Stoney name Mînî Thnî in recent years, the change becomes official on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The Stoney Nakoda chiefs and tribal council are hosting afternoon celebration that includes a grand entrance, drum circles, traditional dances, speeches and the official unveiling. Previous to this, a pipe ceremony will be held.

Key addresses will be made by Chief Clifford Poucette, Goodstoney First Nation, Chief Aaron Young, Chiniki First Nation, and Chief Darcy Dixon, Bearspaw First Nation.

Tribal officials call this a significant celebration of Stoney heritage, sovereignty, and cultural revitalization.
