The community was quick to respond to a shout out for gently used sport equipment for the SLS Centre's first major sport gear swap.

In a matter of five days, enough equipment donated to fill multiple 8 ft. tables in the Cochrane Curling Centre.

Catriona Hill, SLS Centre director of experience, was thrilled with the response.

"This is community supporting community," she says. "It's going to especially get newcomers to the community who have never tried skating before the opportunity to get their hands on their skates without having to go through some crazy expense."

"When some of my team were putting this stuff away, they were looking at the amount of donations and going, wow, like that's $2,000 worth of hockey gear that was just donated, and I'm talking about all the gear, I'm talking about one donation that came in. So, it's community giving back to community."

Those who donated to the swap got first crack at the gear for the first hour before the general public was admitted.

She gives a shout out to Paddy McLure, who for many years did a casual gear swap at the centre.

The last of the gently used equipment for ice, dryland, aquatics as well as running shoes will be available until Aug. 30 in the lower curling viewing area.
