In the coming few days, it's expected the first municipally owned EV charger station will be operational in Winkler. Installation work got underway at the start of this week.

"We're excited to say we're going to have the first municipal owned electrical vehicle charger in Winkler placed at the Meridian Exhibition Centre," said Mayor Henry Siemens. "By the end of this week, it will be there and be ready to be used by the public."

A grant from the Manitoba Motor Dealers Association is helping cover the cost of the installation of the two port Level 2 charger. Two parking spots are dedicated to the EV charger, which is located on the south parking lot of the Meridian Exhibition Centre.

The charging station will be pay per use, and be based on the amount of time used for charging.
