Red Deer County, for the ninth consecutive year, they have once again been named the recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for their 2024-2026 budget document.
The budget document lays out all Capital and Operating expenditures for the County, and details how tax dollars are used to provide services for ratepayers. The document contains both detailed and summary breakdowns of funding sources, policies, and highlights County finance over a multi-year timeline.
According to the Association, “The award represents a significant achievement, it reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the organization has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”
"Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from GFOA validates Red Deer County’s financial management processes; preparation of our annual budget plays a huge part for our strategic planning, enabling us to address the needs of our community while fostering transparency and accountability," said Dave Dittrick, Corporate Services Director.
“It’s a true testament for Red Deer County to receive this for nine consecutive years, thank you to all the dedicated staff that have worked hard to produce an international award-winning budget document that details our operations and long-term strategy for service excellence and sustainability,” remarked Mayor Jim Wood.
