The winners of the 2024 Calgary Community Theatre Awards, also known as the CAT awards, were recently announced, and some locals were among the recipients.

These awards are produced by the Calgary-ACTS (Calgary's Alliance of Community Theatres), and their focus is to promote community theatre in the Calgary Metropolitan Region.

They determine the CAT Awards winners through the combined process of public nominations and adjudication.

Anyone who attends a community theatre production in the Calgary area is encouraged by Calgary-ACTS to nominate their favourite productions throughout this upcoming 2024-2025 season.

This year's CAT Awards recognize 45 different productions from 23 community theatre member companies.

23 of those productions from 15 of the theatre companies were nominated for the awards.

In total, there were 11 nominations over 19 award categories.

One of the categories is the Volunteer Awards, one of which was awarded to Kelly Kozak from the Dewdney Players Group Theatre.

The Dewdney Players Group Theatre is a non-profit community group in Okotoks that produces several shows a year, including Henry V - The Battle For France, an adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic

Their production of Henry V, which premiered back in January, also received a CAT nod, with Katie Fournell winning the Outstanding Fight Direction award.
