Cochrane's Doug Campbell was one of two flag bearers for Alberta in the Canada 55+ Games now underway in Quebec City.

The second day of competition is wrapping up and continue until Friday.

Last night (Aug. 27), 3,800 people attended the opening ceremonies in Quebec City.  About 2,800 senior athletes are competing, making it the largest games ever in its 28-year history. It's the first time Quebec has hosted the games.

Campbell was joined by Norma Dawson, president of the Big Country Senior Sports Society (BCSSS), otherwise known as Alberta Zone 2, in bearing the Alberta flag in the opening ceremony. Both have competed since 2009 and held have executive positions on the nonprofit boards of AB 55Plus and BCSSS.

While most participants are between age 55 and 80, the eldest include a 93-year-old man and 91-year-old woman.
