Alberta RCMP is urging residents of Alberta to drive safe this Labour Day weekend as traffic is expected to increase.

They're reminding Albertans that traffic safety is a shared responsibility between both the driver and passenger.

Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic was quoted in a media release:

“Last year, we issued 1,124 speeding tickets, 41 tickets for distracted driving, and 46 for liquor and cannabis offenses. We will be out again this year working to keep people safe. I hope our reported numbers are much lower this year.”

Tips that could keep you safe this long weekend include driving with caution, removing any distractions, planning your route ahead of time, following posted speed limits, driving according to road conditions, being mindful of recreational vehicles, and never driving while under the influence.
