The Town of Ponoka has rolled out a new notification service to ensure residents have easy access to what’s happening in the community.
The Voyent Alert system will send alerts to keep residents up to date about utility service disruptions, and local emergencies.
“The town is providing this new notification service to help ensure that residents receive critical information quickly about any utility service disruptions that affect their access to utilities such as water and power,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson. “This could include a planned power outage to conduct electrical maintenance on our electrical system in town; or a water main break that may require water service along a particular street to be temporarily turned off while repairs are completed.”
He added, “The new notification service will also help ensure Ponoka residents and visitors are kept informed in the event of an unexpected, large-scale emergency that could threaten lives or property in our community.”
The service offers other optional non-emergency alerts such as town road closures, curbside waste collection reminders, parking bans during snow removal, town event notifications, new program announcements, temporary and facility closures.
Residents who receive a monthly utility bill will be automatically enrolled to receive the alerts through the primary phone number and address associated with their utility bills.
They will initially receive alerts via recorded voice calls. After the introductory phone call, they can choose if they want to keep receiving alerts by call, or through text and email.
All other residents will need to subscribe to receive alerts.
Residents can also register for optional non-emergency alerts about town information, such as road closures, waste collection reminders, and snow and ice control updates.
