Looking eastbound down the south dike path that's now slated for renewal in 2025

Overall repairs to Winkler's south dike pathway have been fast forwarded after damage incurred by the popular recreation route earlier this year.

"The south dike is probably one of our most used, if not our most used pathway in our community," said Mayor Henry Siemens. "It's been there for a number of years, and it was showing it's age already. Unfortunately this year we did have some construction in the area, and some of the trucks were on that pathway. As soon as they saw there was damage being created they came off of it, but the damage had been done."

Siemens added the damaged areas have been temporarily patched. Residents are being asked to use caution when utilizing the path until full repairs can be done next year.

"We are going to need to renew it in 2025, we're looking at how that fits in our budget," he said. "It's going to be pulled up a little bit earlier than we had originally anticipated doing it, but that said, it was already on our RADAR and knew it needed to be done."
