Plenty of sunshine and some warm weather will send off the last weekend of August and bring in September.

The southeast is preparing for the long weekend and it looks like the weather will be well set to help make the next few days a good ending to summer.

Clear skies and comfortably warm temperatures will be seen throughout, though the weekend will be followed up by a bit more heat.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg talks about the upcoming weather for the Labour Day long weekend.

"Looks to start off a little bit cooler, but still pretty warm. Temperatures in the low to mid-20s, about 23-24° looks like for the high for Saturday. It'll also be a bit windy with winds northwest about 30 kilometers per hour, but then it warms up fairly considerably so that Monday's temperature looks to be in the high 20s, maybe about 28-29°. Picks up a little bit more for Tuesday."

There'll also be some chilly nights this weekend that should warm up later on for anyone taking one last opportunity for camping.

"Overnight lows early Saturday morning might be around 5 or 6°, but then the overnight lows will get into the low double digits it looks like, or maybe a sliver lower for Sunday, Monday."

Vacation-goers and farmers will both be pleased with the shift in weather as Berg says it's unlikely we'll see those occasional rains that plagued August.

"There's a ridge that's building up for kind of mid to late week this coming week. So that'll be a kind of more of a sunny type of situation for most of the next little while. Today, until Wednesday, looks to be maybe more of a mix of sun and clouds, but beyond that looks looks fairly clear and sunny for the most part."

While the calendar will shift from August to September Berg reminds people that taking seriously is important even during the fall months.

"I think just for the later part of the long weekend and early next week, I guess on Tuesday too, be a little bit more careful with the heat. If it's into the 30s, might be a bit of an issue for some people who have a little bit more heat sensitivity so people could just stay cool if they need to, and make sure that they're well hydrated."
