The Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation’s annual golf tournament has once again demonstrated the power of community engagement and generosity, setting a new record for funds raised. This year’s event, held on a rescheduled date due to rain, surpassed expectations, raising an impressive $91,000 and counting.

Shannon Samatte-Folkett, the Executive Director of the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, shared her gratitude and excitement about the attendance. “I’m really honored that we had such an amazing turn out, considering we had to have a rain date. We had people just step up and come out again... it’s really special to see the support that we have from these players.”

The gravity of the achievement was not lost on Samatte-Folkett, who noted that the record-breaking sum was a testament to the community’s dedication. “Over $91,000 is mind-boggling and it is also rewarding... I really don’t know how to properly express my thanks to everyone who participates.”

After PembinaValleyOnline spoke with Samatte-Folkett, an updated total was provided of about $94,000.

Ben Friesen, Chairperson of the Foundation, also highlighted the significance of the event. He reflected on the broad support that the tournament receives. “It’s not just this golf tournament, we do the gala, we did the ten-million-dollar fundraiser, it’s just this community is behind to support this Boundary Trails Health Centre.”

He went on to explain that the funds raised play a crucial role in enhancing the facilities and services provided by the Boundary Trails Health Center. While government funding covers basic healthcare needs, the foundation’s contributions allow for additional improvements, such as palliative care programs to offer families more comfort during difficult times or maintaining equipment throughout the year.

Friesen highlighted the impact of the Foundation’s work is evident in the positive feedback from patients and families. “The person I talked to today said that they’re a family from Winnipeg, came out here and got service, got healthcare here at our hospital... and they were just dumbfounded at what fantastic service and how nice it was to be here.”

Through a casual golf tournament, the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation not only succeeded in their goal of raising funds, but also showcased the remarkable spirit of community involvement, and the effect that it can have on a region.
