While the calendar is heading into September soon, it won't feel like the end of summer here in the southeast just yet, with the long weekend ahead calling for nothing but sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s, and even hotter next week.

"Looks to start off a little bit cooler, but still pretty warm, with temperatures in the low to mid-20s," said Stephen Berg, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada. "It'll also be a bit windy, with winds northwest about 30 kilometers per hour, but then it warms up fairly considerably so that Monday's temperature looks to be in the high 20s, maybe about 28 degrees, and picks up a little bit more for Tuesday."

While the days will be shorts-and-tee weather, the nights will be chilly this weekend, with an overnight low for Saturday expected to be around five degrees.

"Then the overnight lows will get into the low double digits it looks like, or maybe a sliver lower for Sunday, Monday," he noted.

The intermittent rains of the past week will be taking a break, which will be a boon to farmers.

"There's a ridge that's building up for kind of mid to late week this coming week," Berg said, adding sunshine dominates the forecast well into next week.

Berg reminds people to take the heat expected in early September just as seriously as during the summer months.

"Be a little bit more careful with the heat. If it's into the 30s, that might be a bit of an issue for some people who have a little bit more heat sensitivity," he commented. "So people could just stay cool if they need to, and make sure that they're well hydrated."
