Over the summer, Lacombe County received a grant from the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) through the National Trail Youth Employment Program.

The grant was used to enhance local sections of the trail, ensuring it remains a vibrant part of Canada’s national trail network.

Two Lacombe County staff members worked to ensure the trails remain safe and enjoyable for all users.

Their responsibilities included general maintenance of green spaces along the trail and day-use areas, tree trimming, painting, janitorial duties, and infrastructure upgrades, repairs, and accessibility enhancements.

The county’s contribution to the TCT includes two key sections.

The first section stretches 8 km between the City of Lacombe and the Town of Blackfalds, through farmland, around Lacombe Lake, and past Kuhnen Park.

The second section, a 2 km stretch, extends south from the Town of Blackfalds to the Blindman River. The segment features a pedestrian bridge that connects to Red Deer County, enhancing the accessibility and appeal of the trail network.
