The Labour Day long weekend is going to be warmer than usual for Foothills County.

According to Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada Justin Shelley, Foothills County is in for a pleasant three-day stretch.

"We have an upper ridge that's going to bring in a relatively warm air mass and it's going to keep things, also, pretty dry for the most part," Shelley explains.

The temperatures are going to increase as the weekend progresses.

Saturday's forecast will see temperatures in the mid to high 20s, whereas both Sunday and Monday will get up to the low 30s.

"This is quite a bit above average for this time of year. Our daytime highs by the end of August beginning of September are closer to 20 degrees. So, at least for Sunday and Monday, we're looking at about 10 to 12 degrees above average for those daytime highs," Shelley says.

Overnight, the temperatures are expected to drop close to the 10-degree mark, giving people a reprieve from the heat.

In terms of other weather conditions this weekend, there isn't much going on.

"Saturday and Sunday, not looking at any type of precipitation risk, but later into Monday, as that ridge starts to break down slightly, we are going to see a risk of showers, possibly thunderstorms develop over Western Alberta that may track through the region later on Monday and into Monday night."

Shelley says the chance of showers will increase overnight on Monday (Sept. 2).

The pleasant forecast will be a perfect complement to the Labour Day long weekend events in the Foothills.

Those include the Alberta Day Drive-In movie in Okotoks on Friday and the Eagle Eyes concert at Seaman Stadium on Saturday.

High River is celebrating Alberta Day with a concert in George Lane Park in High River on Friday.
