Dreams can come true--just asked Lacey Blouin.
Yesterday, she was crowned the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen in front of the overflowing crowd at the Labour Day Weekend Rodeo.
"This is a lifelong dream, and it's such an honor to be able to represent the Lions and the Cochrane Lions Rodeo," says Lacey. "It's so excited."
Lacey Blouin and fellow contestant Kesten Savage were waiting anxiously on the sideline for the announcement after several weeks of judging.
"I was so nervous. I was just sitting there waiting and waiting and had no idea what was going to happen. My mind went blank, honestly, I was just hoping."
Seventeen-year-old Lacey was born and raised in the Cochrane area. The Lions rodeo has been the setting for some important moments for their family. In fact, it's where her parents met.
"We're a rodeo family," says Lacey. "My brother is a steer rider, and I've had my hand in team roping, breakaway roping, goat tying and all sorts of events, and my dad's a team roper. We've always grown up around the Cochrane Ag Society Roping Club. It's just always been a huge part of my life, so to be able to represent it is amazing."
She's always admired the important role played by rodeo queen.
"I have many memories from growing up here and coming to the rodeo and watching the rodeo queen. I always looked up to them growing up."
In her role as the official ambassador for the Cochrane Lions Rodeo, she'll be making appearance at over 50 events. She'll be participating in many southern Alberta rodeos, including the Calgary Stampede, and numerous Cochrane community events.
September 1 is day two of the FCA-sanctioned Labour Day Weekend Rodeo. The action begins at 1 p.m.
