Three new Green and Gold members were named to the roster Monday (September 2nd) after the Okotoks Oilers' weekend training camp.
The first new face announced to the Oilers was forward Coy Pighin. The 18-year-old is coming off two seasons with the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL. In the two seasons Pighin played, he accumulated 67 points in 86 games.
In post-season play, Pighin was a force for the Dragons with nine points in nine games last year and nine points in 13 games in the 2023 AJHL playoffs.
Pighin is a local talent as well as he grew up just outside of Nanton.
“I used to live by Nanton, and I kind of knew there’s just kind of a small-town feeling when you play here, so I think it’ll be enjoyable,” Pighin said in an Oilers release.
“They play fast and physical, it’s kind of similar to [Drumheller]. It’s a little gritty, but there’s some skill in there.”
Pighin is committed to Colorado College of the NCAA once his junior career is over.

Joey Meredith was next up to have his name announced as the forward who hails originally from Toledo, Ohio put up incredible numbers last year.
Meredith who played for the Detroit Victory Honda squad had 105 points in 70 games in the 18U AAA league last regular season. In the 2022-2023 season in the same league, Meredith again put up impressive numbers with 78 points in 65 games.
During the two seasons playing in the 18U AAA league with Victory Honda, Meredith produced a total of 70 goals.
The third player the Okotoks Oilers announced on Monday was another player from the Drumheller Dragons with 20-year-old defenceman Cyle Clayton getting named to the 2024-2025 Green and Gold squad.
Clayton wore the "A" as the assistant captain for the Dragons last season and posted 23 points in 53 games. During the 2024 playoffs, Clayton added three points in nine games, and in the 2023 post-season he had two goals and four assists in 13 games.
The Strathmore product isn't new to the Okotoks area either as he played three seasons in Okotoks during his minor hockey career. Clayton was a part of the U15 AAA Okotoks Oilers, U16 AAA Okotoks Oilers, and the U18 AAA Okotoks Oilers.
Clayton is committed to the University of Alaksa-Fairbanks at the end of his junior career. The same school former captain of the Oilers, Dean Spak is attending this season.
The Okotoks Oilers are expected to announce more names to the roster as the week progresses.
