The Cartwright Twins are Border Baseball League champions for the second time in three years. Andrew Lochead drilled a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning to lift the Twins past the Altona Bisons 7-4 in the deciding 5th game of the final Monday at Waldie Field. The Bisons plated the tying run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. 2024 marked the fifth time in the past seven years that a game five was necessary. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost their regular season finale 6-3 to the Lincoln Saltdogs Monday afternoon at Blue Cross Park. Evan Alexander, Edwin Arroyo and Keshawn Lynch each drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Goldeyes (56-43) who finished in first place in the American Association's West Division. The Fish will face the Sioux Falls Canaries in the best-of-three division semifinals. Game one goes Wednesday in Sioux Falls. Game two is scheduled for Friday in Winnipeg. 


Tobias Morasch scored in the 60th minute to lift the Winkler Storm past the Hanover Kickers 1-0 Monday night at the Winkler Recreation Complex. Carter Klassen recorded the clean sheet for the second game in a row as the Storm improved to 12-2-2 in the Manitoba Major Soccer League’s 1st Division.


Nicholas Bennett of Parksville, B.C, won Canada's first gold medal of the Paralympic Games, finishing atop the podium in the men's 100-metre breaststroke for his second medal in Paris. Winnipeg's Leanne Taylor captured bronze in triathlon and Austin Smeenk of Oakville, Ontario finished third in Athletics T34 100m final. Canadian athletes have won 12 medals, including one gold, four silver and six bronze. Canada’s wheelchair rugby team will go home with a sixth-place finish following a 53-50 loss to France. Canada’s women’s sitting volleyball team is advancing into the semifinals after defeating Rwanda 3-0 to wrap up the group stage. The Canadian men’s wheelchair basketball team concluded preliminary play with a 68-52 victory over Germany and finished with a 2-1 record.
