Throughout the month of September, Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz will be giving back to the community, by donating 10% of the proceeds from all flower sales to Portage Service for Seniors.

Funds raised from flower purchases in September will go to programs at Portage Services for Seniors, such as: Meals on Wheels, transportation programs, and Lifeline Canada, which is an emergency system for seniors who live on their own.

These programs help increase security and pave a positive path forward for seniors living independently.

Alicia says, “We are all getting older, maintaining, and securing programs such as these help provide services for people now and for the future. That’s why we want to lend their support, and bring attention to this local non-profit organization.”

Kyle and Alicia Pettinger own the popular flower and gift boutique in Portage la Prairie, and they’re passionate about their community.

Giving back to the community is important to the Pettingers because it can make such a big difference in so many people’s lives.

Alicia adds, “It brings us all together and strengthens our sense of community.”

Now the Pettingers want to give back to the people who helped build the foundation of Portage la Prairie.

While financial support is key, they also recognize the value in volunteering. Money can not match the time and effort of the people getting involved.

Kyle mentions, “Over the years we’ve spent time on the Chamber board, Portage minor hockey board, Portage minor baseball board and we try to set an example and get our kids involved as well; recently billeting a Terrier over the past 2 years.”

Alicia points out that while monetary donations are a significant help to Portage Services for Seniors, there are other ways to show your support – by volunteering your time, donating your products, and bringing awareness to programs that help Portage become a better place to live, for everybody.

“We’re doing this to help support the health and well-being of our seniors. When we first looked around our community we saw a strong organization with a meaningful and very impactful purpose. Our goal is to try to create more awareness of the great work they do for our community on a day to day basis.”

We are hoping for today’s news and celebrating Portage Service for Seniors and their 35 years will bring some smiles to our community.
