There's been a grizzly bear attack in Rocky View County.
The attack happened on opening day of hunting season on Sunday, September 1.
RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff says they got the call on Sunday morning.
"We received our initial report about a bear attack on September 1st just after 10:13 a.m. What we do know is that there were three hunters, and they were on Range Road 34 just north of Township Road 274. They reported being attacked, one of them was attacked by a grizzly bear, and they also believe that there were some cubs in the area as well. Now, our victim in this case who was attacked, he's a 48-year-old male from Calgary and he was taken to Calgary hospital with some significant but not life-threatening injuries."
Savinkoff added "We stay on scene, and we awaited Fish and Wildlife who arrived, and we provided some security for Fish and Wildlife while they conducted their investigation. Going forward Fish and Wildlife have taken over this investigation and they'll be following up with what type of bear and looking into the circumstances of what occurred on this day."
