The Weyburn Police Service dealt with two separate break-and-enter types of incidents last week.

The first happened in the early morning hours of last Monday when officers were called to a local business location. The fence to the business’ compound had been cut. Sergeant Shane St. John explained it appeared something had scared the suspect away before anything else could happen.

“Maybe one of the patrolling officers, or a citizen coming by,” St. John speculated. “Besides wrecking the fence, which will cost some money to fix, they did not steal anything.”

The second incident took place at a home last Thursday. Police were called when someone broke into a house. In this situation, there was an occupant of the home, who was assaulted during the course of the incident.

“Those are always really scary situations,” St. John explained. “They were able to identify the suspect in that incident.”

The suspect was arrested and charged.

In all, the WPS responded to 100 calls last week, resulting in 14 charges under the Criminal Code, and another six under the Traffic Safety Act.
