A water line will be replaced in Nanton soon.

There have been significant water leakage issues along 29th Avenue.

Beginning on September 9th, crews will begin to address and resolve these issues by repairing the entire line in this section, which is a practical time for them to complete the work because the asphalt has already been disturbed and paving is required to fix the areas where work has previously been completed.

For a few years, the Town of Nanton has heard from residents near the intersection of 29th Avenue and 20th Street that their sump pumps have been frequently running.

After investigation, they found that high groundwater levels and water infiltration was the cause, and to help deal with it and reduce basement flooding, they diverted the infiltrating water into the sewer system.

Earlier this year, repairs had been done to the northernmost section of 29th Avenue, where they uncovered and fixed four significant leaks, but some chlorinated water is still infiltrating into the line, indicating that there are still leaks nearby.

The copper service line that was removed at that time showed signs of severe corrosion and pitting.

The repair work will be done in two phases, starting in the northern section.

After the repairs are finished in the northern section, the Town will monitor the water flow at the manhole to determine if the work they completed has reduced the infiltration from occurring.

From there, they will determine if the southern section of 29th Ave will need to be evaluated further.

This work is expected to last between 10 and 14 days, and during that time there may be limited passage and temporary detours, but those who live in the area will still be able to get to their homes through the back lane.

There are some disturbances expected to yards, shrubs, and sidewalks, but the Town's Public Works will help coordinate to inform residents in advance of these disturbances and will help minimize any inconvenience.

While not all of the disturbances can be fully restored to how they were prior, the Town will help to address them as best as possible.

The road will need to be resurfaced in 2025.
