A successful trip raffle and 50/50 fundraiser for the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation, with the draws being made Tuesday morning live on Facebook.

The lucky winner of the trip for two to Nashville was Janice Ashworth, and Leah Hemphill was the winner of the 50/50 jackpot, taking home $4,790.

"This is our third raffle and 50/50 we've done, to my knowledge, since I've worked for the Hospital Foundation, and this is our most successful one," said Office Manager Whitney Johnson.

She said total ticket sales brought in $23,860, and even after paying out some of it for administrative fees, it will still be the most the raffle fundraisers have garnered for the organization, which has been raising funds since 2008 for the new general hospital.

"The Hospital Foundation is responsible for 20 percent of the construction costs and then 100 percent of the equipment costs," she explained.

"I want to thank CAA, our trip sponsor, they donated $1,000 towards the trip to Nashville, and along with everyone who purchased tickets to make this fundraiser successful."

Johnson added they did learn a few things with this fundraiser.

"We learn a few new things every year, so we know what we need to fix every year, so hopefully it just keeps getting bigger and bigger," she commented. "But I think the trip, the destination, definitely was a draw for people."
