On Aug. 30, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) arrested and charged one individual after receiving numerous calls of a man and a woman in a vehicle with a firearm.

Police began searching for the suspects and vehicle, and requested the assistance of RCMP Air Services and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

The male suspect was successfully located by CRT, who then entered a residence in the Waskasoo neighbourhood.

With the assistance of ERT, Red Deer RCMP General Duty members, and Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), police attempted to call the suspect out of the residence to surrender to police.

After several hours, police entered the residence. Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) and ERT searched the residence and located the suspect in a hidden crawl space within the residence.

The suspect was safely arrested and taken into custody.

Further investigation led to CRT obtaining an additional search warrant for the suspect vehicle and the involved residence, which led to the seizure of two firearms and additional evidence.

Todd Deschambeault, a 32 year-old resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance x2 (Methamphetamine & Fentanyl)
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order x6
  • Illegal Possession of Government Documents
  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Possession of firearm when knowing possession unauthorized
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Deschambeault was remanded into custody to appear in court in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Sept. 3.
