Desmond “Des” Francis Grace
October 25, 1946 – August 30, 2024

It is with broken hearts that the family of Desmond “Des” Francis Grace of Muenster, SK, announces his death on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK.  He was 77 years of age.  Desmond ‘Des’ Francis Grace was born on October 25, 1946, in Humboldt, SK, to Allan and Melania (née Strueby) Grace. He attended elementary grades at Ives School, then high school at Muenster High School, and graduated Grade 12 at St. Peter’s College. In 1964 Des went to work for CIBC in Kelvington where he met Correen. They later moved to Saskatoon in the fall of 1965 where he went to work for Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation Credit Union. In 1967. he married Correen, daughter of Metro and Joyce Kitar of Kelvington. In the spring of 1971, Des and Correen moved to Regina where he worked at Teachers’ Credit Union. In September of 1972, Sheldon was born. Shortly after, the family moved to Humboldt when Des became the manager of Muenster Credit Union. In August of 1973, they moved to their home in Muenster, and Jill was born. Des remained as the Manager of the Muenster Credit Union until he retired in December of 2001, during which he was a delegate for Saskatchewan Credit Unions, working to create the Credit Union Act of 1998. Throughout his time in Muenster, he was also very involved in the family farming operation with his brother Rene and his dad Allan. Des was also an active member of the community and was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Peter’s College, the committee for the Humboldt and District Sports Hall of Fame, Community Disaster Committee, and the St. Peter’s Parish Council. He was a long-serving Secretary-Treasurer of the Muenster Elks and involved with the Elks Purple Cross. As well, Des was the federal representative of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Throughout his life, Des enjoyed many sports including baseball, hockey, fast pitch, racquetball, handball, and golf. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. Des is survived and greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Correen; his children: Sheldon Grace, and Jill (Robin) Wark; granddaughters Georgia and Lila; siblings: Dianne (Ron) Dust, and Rene (Doreen) Grace, Coleen Grace, and Peggy (Steve) Mitchell; brother-in-law, Aaron Lang; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Melania (née Strueby) Grace; twin sister Donna (Grace) Lang; in-laws Metro and Joyce Kitar; and by his nephew Chad.  The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB.  Others taking part were:  Ryder Hinz, crossbearer; Garry Loehr and Spencer Pitzel, scripture readers; Mary Thoen, intentions; Wayne and Noreen Strueby, giftbearers; Janice Korte, Mary Hofmann and Loyola Frank, memorial table attendants; Jill Wark, eulogist; and Sheldon Grace, urnbearer.  Music ministry was provided by Sheryl Korte, organist, Christy Waldner, pianist, and members of the St. Peter’s Cathedral Choir.  Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Desmond’s life”.  Inurnment followed at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Fund (P.O.
