Five Manitobans are among 48 players invited to Hockey Canada's National Women's Team September Camp which will take place from the 9th-16th at Canada Games Park in Thorold, Ontario. They include goaltenders Corinne Schroeder of Elm Creek, Raygan Kirk of Ste. Anne and Kristen Campbell of Brandon along with defenders Ashton Bell of Deloraine and Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne. The players will be split into Red and White teams for practices, fitness testing and a pair of intrasquad games on September 12th & 14th. Following September Camp, players will prepare for the season with their PWHL and college teams before a roster is named for the first international competition of the season, the 2024-25 Rivalry Series starting November 6th in San Jose, California. The 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship will be held next April in Czechia.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes meet the Canaries in Sioux Falls tonight (6:35 p.m.) in game one of the American Association's best-of-three West Division semifinal. The Fish finished just one game ahead of Sioux Falls in the race for first place in the division and choose the Canaries as their opening round opponent. The third place Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks will face the fourth place Sioux City Explorers in the other West semifinal. The first place Cleburne Railroaders will take on the third place Chicago Dogs and the second place Kane County Cougars will face the fourth place Lake Country DockHounds in the East Division semifinals.
Cody Fournie and Greg Stewart of Victoria, B.C., captured Canada's second and third gold medals at the Paralympics in Paris. Fournie won the men's wheelchair T-51 200-metre sprint in 37.64 seconds while Stewart finished first in F-46 shot put with a toss of 16.38 metres. Nathan Clement of West Vancouver cycled to silver in Men's T1-2 individual road time trial. Katie Cosgriffe of Burlington, Ontario earned bronze in the women's S-10 100-metre butterfly. Canada has won a total of 16 medals, including three gold, six silver and seven bronze.
