In Morden, residents have become quite fond of participating in city-wide garage sales — the mystery of what will be available has piqued the interest of many. In the coming days, there will be another opportunity to get out into the community to find unique items.

Trent Medynski has become the “unofficial organizer” of the city-wide garage sale in Morden.

“We like to do it twice a year. Last spring was super successful,” he says. “Everybody I talked to was just abuzz about how well it went, so we're going to try again this fall.”

The sale — a sustainable opportunity to freshen up the home for a new season either by adding new items or taking old ones away — will take place on September 7th (this Saturday) from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“Every sale is allowed to make its own hours, so there’s going to be some different hours, [too],” says Medynski.

Morden's spring city-wide garage sale had just over 100 registrants, which is the highest number that it has seen. Last spring, 93 homes signed up.

“I usually have a Google map made for these sales, and there were just dots everywhere,” says Medynski. “Just crazy.”

While, of course, the spring sale had the objective of moving items, it doubled as a community bonding experience.

“Everybody that I've talked to was super happy about it, so, it sounded like everybody did really well,” says Medynski. “They had a fun time perusing the different sales and people found some special things and good deals and that's all we're trying to do — move some stuff out of our houses, make a little extra money, and have some fun with it, too.”

Whether one has 2 or 42 items to sell, the city-wide garage sale is open to everyone.

"Don't be shy,” says Medynski. “You don't have to have a large sale, just put out the stuff you want to get rid of, and I'm sure people will stop by.”

Anyone who would like to register for the city-wide event is encouraged to send an email to Medynski at eightieskid2@hotmail.com. To view the map of the sale and updates about it, visit its Facebook page here.
