Winkler Fire Department responded Tuesday evening to a fire in a mechanical-electrical room in a business located on George Avenue. The call came in at 6:36 p.m.

Chief Richard Paetzold says firefighters extinguished the fire, with the flames contained to the room of origin. There was some smoke damage to other areas of the building. The cause remains under investigation, and there were no injuries in the incident.

Just minutes after the fire call was received, around 6:48 p.m., the department was called out to a collision scene on 1st Street. Paetzold noted they had ample members available to attend both, but if they hadn't, mutual aid would have been initiated.

Meanwhile, a reminder from the Chief after yesterday's fire call, it's prohibited under the highway traffic act to drive over an unprotected fire hose without permission.
