The town has announced the second phase of public engagement on the future of transit in Cochrane has been launched.

It will largely focus upon new network and service design principles that considers feedback from the first round of engagement conducted earlier this year.

The principles of frequency, coverage and span will guide the next phase of transit options.

There's a tight timeline on this one. Residents have until Sept. 15 to help prioritize the principles in a survey that is expected to take five to 10 minutes to complete.

In addition, a randomly selected group of 40 individuals have been invited to participate in an online focus group in early September. They will review and provide feedback on the network and service design principles for improving transit in Cochrane.

The survey can be completed online at www.letstalkcochrane.ca/transit. Hard copies are also available at The Station, Cochrane Municipal Library, and the Cochrane RancheHouse.

At last night's committee-of-the-whole meeting, Mayor Jeff Genung says some residents may be feeling a fatigued over the extensive public engagement on transit. He wants the town to be candidate in stressing its importance.

"Say, yes, we are asking you again about transit, because this is an important service, and we want to get it right," Genung suggested should be the message. "We care about your tax dollars, and we want to spend them efficiently and provide the best survey possible."

The layered public engagement informs the major study underway on Cochrane's troubled transit system. It will provide town council options on what the future of public transit could look like within varying budget parameters.
