Carlyle RCMP officers caught a driver who was speeding on highways around the area, which ended in a dramatic stop.

On August 31 at around 9:20 p.m. they received a report of an erratic driver who had left the Kenosee Lake area and was barreling straight toward Carlyle.

Officers were on the scene and located the suspect traveling northbound on Highway 9 towards Kenosee Lake at an extremely high speed.

During the incident, RCMP set up a tire deflation device on Lake View Street in Kenosee Lake, catching the suspect's vehicle and successfully deflating all four tires.

The chase continued as the suspect fled from police. Due to the safety risk, officers followed the vehicle at a slower speed.

Eventually, the suspect stopped at a dead-end road, and an adult male was arrested at the scene.

Upon investigation, it was found that the license plate of the vehicle was stolen from Alberta.

19-year-old Ashton Retieffe from Kenosee Lake is charged with:

  • two counts of flight from a peace officer.
  • two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
  • three counts of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000.
  • two counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
  • one count of failure to comply with a release order condition.

Ashton Retieffe appeared in Weyburn Provincial Court yesterday.
